How to record a Google Meet call

Google Meet records only on some plans, and only if the host lets you. Lira records the call from your side, on the Mac, and when it ends you have the transcript, the summary and the commitments.

Recording with Meet itself

  • Meet records on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise, Essentials, some Education editions, Workspace Individual and Google One with 2 TB or more.
  • A Workspace admin has to allow recording; participants can record only if the host lets them.
  • You can record only on a computer or an Android device.
  • To start: Meeting tools, then Recording, then Start recording. Everyone is told when it starts and stops. A recording stops after 8 hours.

Where Meet saves the recording

  • In the organizer's My Drive, in the Meet Recordings folder. The organizer and the person who started it get an email with the link.

Recording a Meet call with Lira

  • The Mac app lives in the menu bar and captures both sides of your Google Meet call, plus your microphone.
  • Nothing joins the meeting: Lira records the sound on your Mac.
  • Audio is saved every 5 seconds: if something crashes, you lose at most 5 seconds, never the whole meeting.
  • Not on a Mac: record from the browser or the iPhone and Android apps, which use your microphone.

Can I record Google Meet on a free Gmail account?

Not with Meet's own recording: it needs one of the plans above. Lira records the call on your Mac whatever your Google plan.

Where do Google Meet recordings go?

To the organizer's My Drive, Meet Recordings folder.

Can participants record?

With Meet, only if the host allows it. With Lira, you record on your own Mac.
